Taking advantage of Krisflyer 21st Birthday Spontaneous Escape 51% off redemptions!

Singapore Airlines frequent flyer program, Krisflyer turns 21st in February 2020 and they are offering 51% off redemption bookings on selected routes!

This is the largest discount offering for spontaneous escapes as it usually hovers around 20% ~ 30%. But this time they're offering an additional 21% in lieu of their Birthday. Happy Birthday Krisflyer!

Before this promotion, I was initially booked on a trip from SIN - PVG, PVG - DXB (Stopover in SIN).

These 3 flights initially costed 109,500 miles on full Business Saver (together with $100 for the stopover and about $70 in taxes)

I decided to take advantage of this promotion and attempt to reissue my tickets. I called in to Krisflyer where they informed me that I was able to cancel the issued tickets and reissue with a fee of USD70. Considering that the difference in miles would be significant, I agreed and the kind CSO proceeded to rebook me on all my flights in the same Business Saver category.

Eventually, I was rebooked on the same exact flights using a total of 53,655 miles.

The difference was a whopping 55,845 miles ! The difference was enough to allow me to completely rebook on Business Saver to Zone 7 (Japan or South Korea) if I wanted to.

The icing on the cake, the very service oriented Singapore Airlines staff offered to waive off my rebooking fee of 70USD as an exception. Although now I primarily fly on Oneworld alliances to retain my loyalty with Japan Airlines, I still think that Singapore Airlines has one of the best no frills customer service representatives over the phone.
